Mixing

From raw multitrack to a mix that works on headphones and speakers: we balance levels, EQ, dynamics and space, with 2 revision rounds so your notes are actually applied.

Engineer mixing on monitors in treated control room

Mixing is where separate recordings become a song. At Morigliolink in Amsterdam we work in the treated 20 m² control room on calibrated monitors so bass, vocals and drums sit together, not only sound fine solo.

You can supply stems after band recording or vocal recording with us, or files from home or another studio. We handle singles, EPs and album projects — including remote feedback via contact. Read deliver stems for mixing before you upload.

Process

  1. 01

    Check

Send a stem list, tempo and references. We verify format, clipping and naming within 1 business day and confirm rate (per song, EP or hourly).

  2. 02

    Balance

Rough balance, gain staging, bus structure and first space — vocals and drums get priority so the song becomes recognisable quickly.

  3. 03

    Detail

EQ, compression, sends, automation and edits. We deliver a mixdown plus an instrumental version on request.

  4. 04

    Revision

You get 2 revision rounds with bundled notes. Extra rounds or stem printing are quoted upfront; mastering is the natural next step.

Who mixing is for

Mixing suits artists and producers who lack time or facilities for a final mix, bands wanting a coherent sound after a live session, and labels looking for a neutral second pair of ears. We mix pop, hip-hop, rock, electronic and jazz when stems are technically usable.

Vocals plus a beat from a sample pack? Possible, as long as beat rights are clear; commercial clearance is outside our service but we can still mix technically.

Delivering stems

Consistent naming saves hours. Export each track as WAV, all files starting at the same timecode (bar 1), without a limiter on the master bus of your export. Our guide deliver stems for mixing covers folder structure, headroom and reference mixes.

  • 24 bit / 48 kHz preferred; other rates only by agreement
  • No dither on silence-only tracks
  • Note BPM, key and any tempo changes
  • Send dry and lightly processed vocal if unsure

Workflow in the control room

We mix on monitors in the 20 m² room and check regularly on headphones and a second speaker set for consumer context. Automation lifts choruses and opens bridges — not the same preset chain on every song.

Outboard and plug-ins are chosen per project; we note vocal and bass approach so revisions stay focused rather than selling a gear list.

Revisions and feedback

Each mix includes 2 revision rounds. Bundle feedback per song: timestamp or bar, what should be louder, quieter or brighter. Scattered messages over weeks count as one round.

Alternative versions (e.g. TV mix without explicit lyrics) are possible as extra work. Unlimited revisions are not standard — see terms and conditions.

Delivery formats

You receive a stereo mixdown WAV (24 bit), usually without heavy limiting so mastering keeps headroom. On request: instrumental, a cappella, or printed stems from our mix at a separate rate.

Files go via download link and stay on our servers for 12 months. Keep local copies — see privacy policy for retention.

Turnaround

A single song with clean stems is usually scheduled within five to ten business days after receipt, depending on the calendar. Four-track EPs can be mixed in one block for consistent sound — that is what the EP rate €720 incl. VAT is for.

Rush is sometimes available at extra cost; ask via 020 737 0842 or [email protected]. Remote mixing on location uses the hourly rate €95 when we work outside the studio on your project files.

Outside the mix scope

Mixing does not include recording new parts (book vocals or band), mastering, sample clearance or building beats from scratch. Heavy repair of weak performances (full-song live drum quantise, line-by-line pitch fix) may add hours — we flag that at stem check.

More than 48 tracks per song? Discuss upfront; very large sessions may need a custom quote above the standard track price.

FAQ

How many revisions are included?

2 rounds where we apply your bundled feedback. Extra rounds or major concept changes are quoted separately.

Will you mix beats from my laptop?

Yes if stems are technically sound. Follow our stem guide and note which tracks already have processing.

Do I need mastering too?

Not mandatory, recommended for release. Mastering is separate; we deliver mixes without aggressive limiting so mastering has headroom.

What if stems are out of sync?

We fix small offsets; structural tempo issues cost extra time. Always include a reference bounce.

Can I attend the mix session?

By appointment — the control room is 20 m², so visitor space is limited. Remote notes by email work well for most clients and save travel time.
